T3-Impeachment

Impeachment is a long process. It starts in the house of Representative where they submit the crime the president committed. if the committee votes to accent it, it then goes to the full vote in the house, if the majority of the house votes to impeach a separate committee of prosecutors is chosen and it then moves to the senate, in the supreme court the chief justice acts as a judge and it goes as though it was a court case. if the majority vote for his removal, he is than impeached. Bill Clinton was impeached on two charges. One of perjury and one of instruction of justice. He lied under oath, and everything was justified in the end although he had lied while under oath.

T3-JFK

The changes in the American presidency between 1960 and 1970 were all different for every president, and every resident hardly acted different. The Camelot was no more than Kennedy died. Johnson's Great Society, I would say, was successful. The main goals were to eliminate poverty and racial injustice, it addressed education medical and lots of others. Nixon's 'Watergate Scandel'  was a success for him. He kept everything secret as time went by. The posers of the presidency is very powerful. they chose what happen and why but they are of the media . the role of the media is a big impact of everything, it can change.

T3- Martin Luther King JR

The African american civil rights movement of the 50's and 60's was a movement for racial equality in the US that was a non violent protest that broke the pattern of racial segregation in the south and gave blacks equal rights. Brown VS board of education in the Topeka was African and white supporters attempting to help end racial practices. Student non-violent coordinate committee led boycotts and sit ins to de-segregate public businesses. Johnson, persuaded congress to pass civil right and voting right acts. Martin Luther King's assassination caused many African Americans to turn violent which needed strong actions to end. They believed they were being treated unfairly.

T3- Berlin Airlift

The Berlin Airlift was a long process. There were many conflicts. First it started with the Berlin Blockade, which was on June 24, 1948 at 6am. Everything was shut down and left 2,500,000 people to starve. they had to rebuild Germany and they divided Berlin. Soviets thought the block was working, the Berlin airlift started in Early April with small missions, they would have to fly flights which was impossible. It ended on May 12, 1949 it avoided war and it embarrassed the soviets, but the allies kept supplying. The Berlin airlift was important to the cold war because the wall was built in 1961, and kept Berlin divided and kept people out and away.

T3-Civil Rights

The civil rights movement of the 1950's and 1960's address the failures of reconstruction by it being a 60 year struggle, there was still racial segregation, 17 states were segregated, and 16 desegregated. Segregated education was poor, dirty, and limited, they were also forbidden to teach blacks. The brown VS. Board case was involving Linda Brown, they tried to enroll children in school but the school refused, the browns argued that it was separate but equal. The case seen time throughout the year. the verdict was on May 17, 1954 segregated schools, even if they contain equal quality of supplies and faulty, was seen as unconstitutional. The after math is desegregated peacefully, violence, but it inspired many other acts.

T3-Family Issues

I believe you should always be thankful for who you have. Very few people really understand how it feels to know you could lose someone really important to you forever. Never again getting the chance to tell them how you truly feel about them or show them how much they mean to you. They take life for granted, don’t mind fighting with loved ones, and most of all... they can’t grow up and be happy for what they have.

Unlike them, I do, and every day I am so incredibly thankful for who I have. Being the oldest of five siblings is very difficult, but I’m so glad there are five of us; we almost only had three. My youngest two siblings, Jaden (7) and Stone (3), are both miracle babies. When my mom was pregnant with Jaden, the doctors did many expensive tests, all of which came back positive for Down Syndrome. The doctors didn’t think my mom would be able to raise a child with severe Down Syndrome and tried to convince her that an abortion would be the best option. My mom refused, but she took many classes to prepare herself. On February 14, 2005, Valentine’s Day, my baby sister was born and better yet, she was born healthy. They had mis-diagnosed her. Today, she is still extremely healthy. Although she does repeat herself a lot and she has a slight stutter, Jaden is one of the smartest first graders in her class.  I am extremely thankful that I have her. When she was younger I was the only one able to get her to sleep during her nap; she has always been my little girl. Even though she is my sister, I definitely think of her as my own.

My brother Stone was born on April 12, 2009, which was Easter. He also was very healthy, but has had a lot of tests done as well.  Stone was supposed to be born a triplet, but we did not know this until after he was born when my mom delivered Stone and his placenta as normal. But she also delivered a water sack that was unbroken. The sack contained two more unborn babies, and both of their placentas. Stone was the only baby, of three, to survive. He was also the only baby we were aware of during the entire pregnancy. Every time my mom got an ultrasound only one baby would show up, the other two were in a separate water sack that was behind the one Stone was in. During the ultra sounds other heart beats were heard but we were always told they were just echoes from Stone. This hasn’t made much of an impact on us, since we were only prepared for one baby, but knowing the fact that he was the lucky one, the one who made it out of three babies, makes my heart warm. He could have very easily been in the same sack and still-born like the other babies.

What I have learned from Jaden is it is best to prepare for the worst but really wish for the best. You never know what life will throw at you, and most of the times it isn’t very fun. Stone taught me that even when life gives you bad things, no matter what there will be some good hidden deep down. The impact Jaden and Stone have made on my life, is definitely life-changing. I am thankful that they are there, I am thankful I can play with them, fight with them, take care of them, and definitely thankful I can love them and teach them new things as they grow older each day.

T3-Students

Being a new student is really hard. Whether you’re in elementary school, or in high school, the way you feel is the same. You feel lost, and alone. Moving to a place foreign from your knowledge, where you don't know who anybody is, where your classes are, or worst yet. Where to sit in the cafeteria. When I moved from Anamosa to Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, I wanted to crawl into a hole for the rest of my life. It was really difficult to find places, meet people, and have someone to sit with until about two months into the school year when I finally met new friends. It was finally getting better for me. Until about halfway through the year, when I learned it was time to move again. Most people wouldn't mind, but for me I hated the idea. Another new school. I had to repeat the learn process all over again. The moving tips I give in this essay are definitely a big help for students who have been through the same things I have.

Thus it brings me into my choice of topic, process analysis. In order to move to a new school, you need confidence. And a lot of it. And by confidence I don't mean that snobby head up, smirk on your face, walk without a trace of nervousness. I mean, being able to get the courage to ask people for help, for direction, or even asking them if you can sit with them during lunch. Another thing you will need is the ability to make friends, talk to people, get yourself out there. Tell people about yourself, not every slight detail due to the fact it could come back onto you. Tell them that you're new, where you moved from, your hobbies, your favorite subject, your class schedule. Who knows they might tell you where your classes are, or even inform you that you have classes with them.

Social class, parental status, embarrassing moments, and why you moved aren't always topics that will help you find the friends you want, or even the ones that are truly your friends. They can come back and get you, your social class can help determine friends, but the people you consider your friends aren't always what they make-out to be. They could definitely be using you for your families wealth, or to rub in your face of their wealth. If your parents are divorced, that could definitely come back at you as well. The 'Perfect American Family' is definitely not one of divorced parents, joint custody, or even court drama. You fell during an assembly? Your boyfriend/girlfriend dumped you in front of your entire school? Your little sister 'depantsed' you in the wal-mart? Your mom walked with you in the mall? Yep, the teenagers’ most embarrassing moments are definitely on the hush. Share only those with the closest of friends, ones that won't come back and embarrass you even worse the second time.

So whether your a new student, or just can't figure out how to get out of your dazed and confused state, using your best judgment, and not trusting people to much until you really get to know them will definitely help you in the long run.

T3-Homework

Many teachers give homework based on their own schedules, they don’t take into consideration that students have many other classes during their school day. Therefore the students get homework in most of their classes and it’s usually enough to cause a great deal of stress to a student. Between sports, choir, work, and seeing friends and family, there isn’t enough time for students to do their homework at a reasonable time. Therefore as a result they stay awake late into the night and wake up early to finish it in time. This schedule doesn’t allow the students the proper time to learn the material and study for tests.

Imagine yourself on a Tuesday night, and you just got out of practice for your favorite sports team. Time to get ready and go to work for 3 hours until it’s time to leave for your choir concert. By the time you’re finally done with sports, work, and the concert it’s nearly 9 o’clock, which means you won’t get home until at least 9:30. When you get home you realize you have homework in every class, as well as a lab to make up. As you start your brother comes looking for you so he can attack with confusing algebraic problems, of which you are way too stressed out to even look at without wanting to tear your hair out of your head. You are able to help him and get some of your homework done. Now all you have left is your make-up lab and your chemistry homework. It’s already 2am and you have school in the morning, so you decide to wait until tomorrow morning to finish. See a problem here? This happens to a lot of students, especially the ones involved in extra curricular activities.

Many studies show that students ages from ten-17 need over eight hours of sleep at night minimum. The amount of sleep really depends upon the individual but with school, work, sports, and social life teenagers need more sleep than they are allowing themselves. Students are depriving themselves of sleep. This is causing many of them to get sleep disorders which can lead to many problems later in life. The teenager could experience health, weight, serious injuries, automobile accidents, and irritability.

The more irritatation a student has, the less likely they are to do their homework on time. They will be more focused on doing things to help them relax so they aren’t frustrated and stressed anymore. During their meetings the teachers should discuss the homework loads for the week, being considerate of the students and the other plans they have outside of school. They should schedule tests on different days so students don’t cram in three subjects in one night only to confuse them all and get fidgety during the test making it more difficult to concentrate. With my personal experience, I have learned staying up late trying to finish homework as well as studying for many tests makes it hard to concentrate and to stay relaxed. As a result, I am more tense during tests.I believe teachers should limit the homework they give outside of class. Giving more class time to work making it easier to ask questions, making  it lot easier for students to get the sleep they need to help them really focus when they need to. Less homework would definitely benefit high school students in the long run, helping them be more awake to help them focus to get better grades.

T3-Racism

Then:
Before 1863, non white's were slaves, they had to do field work, day and night just to stay in a house and get a little bit of food. They we're allowed 'extras' such as cars, brand new clothes, medicine, baby necessaties, and so much more. they were treated like crap, given separate schools, restrooms, and drinking fountains. They had to stand or sit in the back of the bus, we beat if they went into a 'whites only' restaurants, and even got crosses burnt on their front lawn. They were shot if they looked at a white the wrong way, and white's would throw bricks through their windows.

Now:
Now, non whites are still mis-treated. They are stereo-typed based on their color, believed all to be the same, accused of stealing, rape, and so much more. They are no longer separated, school, bus, and store wise, but many people still watch them closely and don't trust them. They get dirty looks, and get avoided on the streets. Too many people judge the 'book by its cover' instead of opening it up and seeing what the person is like on the inside.

T3-Addictions

The rush of a first kiss as it tingles on my life's, the warmth of a lingering and rather lengthy hug before every class, the way my hands get shaky when we're together. This is my addiction. I love being in a relationship. Single life doesn't work for me. It makes me feel worthless, alone, frightened. Some people use their relationships as a happy place. They're wrong; a relationship isn't just for happiness. It's also for feeling wanted, feelings important to someone, and the feeling that nothing could go wrong, you have somebody to talk about everything with. I 'use' relations for happiness, completeness, and just because I really like that person, and have feelings for them. It helps me get my mind off of home problems, it makes screaming and yelling just sound like soft whispers rushing through one ear and right out of the other. Love isn't a serious addiction though. Some may argue whether it's even an addiction at all. It's not like heroin, which you strive to feel normal, or alcohol, which makes you feel complete (but really it's making you lose everybody in your life.) Love is an addiction to feel complete without physically harming yourself, or others. However, love could cause mental harm. For example, if we have a horrible, rashing fight, or if we break up, I feel as if the wrong is coming to an end, and that I'll never find another love to make me feel the way I do when I'm with that person. I'm not saying everybody is addicted to love, and feels the need to 'have' it, but many do. I believe in love, but not marriage. Love does not always have to lead to what people say it does. I don't need sexuality for love, marriage for love, or even a relationship for love. Many times my best guy/girl friend can show me what love is. Even if we are not dating, or kissing, their hugs and the way they treat me are enough to make me feel loved. Love makes me feel the jolt of electricity, the warmth of sitting next to a fire on a chilly summer night, or the chills of the first bite of ice-cream. It makes me feel complete. And most of all, it makes me want more of it. While heroin and alcohol are much more harmful, love has a few of their qualities. For instance, it takes and pushes me away from my life, drags me away from my friends and family, and how it brings me to a pleasurable state by naturally un-natural ways. It can give me a 'trip' of happiness, and can be almost irresistible. When people talk about their 'addictions', the first thing that comes to my mind is harmful ones, with illegal substances, drugs, and alcohol. It's almost as though many of the mind absorbing addictions are fake; that they don't exist in the mind. The 'Can't Eat, Can't Sleep, Reach for the Stars, Over the Fence, World series kind of Stuff" from the 1995 movie It Takes Two can help me describe love and it's irresistibly to feel like I need somebody in my life in order to be happy. I believe that Love is only real when it lasts with no pauses, no kept secrets, and if it is true. The elderly I see holding hands through Wal-Mart, sharing a soft pretzel at the mall, hugging while one is on the hospital bed, or even just sharing a quick peck on a park bench are what I consider true love. Not being afraid of what others may think, just focusing on my life partner, my lover, and even my best friend. Ignoring the out side world just trying to be with the one who makes me happy, and focusing all my attention to making sure I make them happy as well. My addiction may seem goofy, or not even worth talking about. But to me, it's what makes me feel complete. It's my addiction, and knowing that it's mine, makes it all the more real to me. Not just something made up that my mind just thinks is there.

Term3-Analysis Essay

Aliens taking over the United States? White wires coming out of ears? And only water can save people? Well according to Jim Mullen's article in the Cedar Rapids Gazette in October, 2006 iPod's are representing aliens taking over Americans. In the introduction to this essay Mullen's introduction refers to a Science Fiction movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," from the 1950's. In this movie, aliens would clone themselves to look like you, take over your body, and walk around tone like a 'zombie.' Later on in his essay, he is in the gym and his friend Brian has "those white wires" also known as headphones, coming out of his ears, and he has a blank stare and cannot hear Mullen speaking with him. His wife also turns into a 'pod person' by the end of his essay when he tries to show her something. The only place Mullen believes is safe, is the water, he thinks that the water is poison to pod people, and blocks signals to the 'mother ship.' Little does he actually know, iPods are not waterproof. If they get wet they are ruined and will not work anymore. In the 7th paragraph he talks about alerting the pod people and making sure they don't take over his life, making him obey orders made by someone else all day long, but the links that into being married to his wife Sue. Mullen used anecdotes, parody, irony, imagery, and so much more to help him detail and complete this essay with their purpose. Which was to show how i Pods are distractions to people, yes they are a huge success and increase in technology but they can be very dangerous, a lot of times people are unknown of what is going on around them.

T3-ICE

The relationship between our studies in AP Land, and "Food, Inc.," Lean beef or Pink Slim." "The Pink Menace,: and "Ag Gag" are somewhat related. Food Inc- the film, The movie Food In was probably most related to our studies this year. With the excessive amount of narration, description, subjective reasoning, classification, and cause and effect are a few examples used in this film that we studied, and also use for our blogs to help us better our knowledge and understanding. Logical Fallacies were also included in this film. The narrators use of pathos, logos, and ethos helped this film emotionally affect the audience.

Term 3 - Countdown

School's Almost Out

With less than 3 weeks left of school, its getting very difficult to concentrate. The sun is shining, spring/summer sports have started, bikinis are on sale, and it's been really warm. The effect this is taking is very drastic, with only a little while left until school is over, grades really count, and students only have a little while longer to get them up so they can pass the classes in order to graduate on time. Around this time of year students would rather be playing soccer, going to the beach, and tanning than sitting inside writing papers, doing study guides, and cramming for tests. But this is the time that counts the most, if you are a senior and you fail the wrong class, you won't get to graduate with the rest of your class, as for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen..if you pass the wrong class, it will mess up your schedule in the years to come making you having to take more classes and not getting study halls, and free hours, getting the extra time to play the sports you love and spend time with your friends at the beach.

T3-Tribute Essay

Struggling with being an epileptic, raising five kids, and being a  stay at home mom, my mom has touched my life the most, and has made the most impact.
My mom has five kids, between the ages of three and 17. All of which she has raised mostly on her own. She has never failed to buy us clothes when our get rundown, pay all our bills, or put food on the table, as well as buys us the things we think we "have-to-have." My mom is always there to listen, she never gives up, and she always finds time for each of us. she is extremely strong, smart, and my best friend. Knowing I may someday lose her, whether it be age, epilepsy, or anything else scares me. without my mom i don't know where I would be living, where my next meal will be, or if my clothes even fit properly. My mom, Nichole, is definitely my hero.
